Beverly T. Kirk, 73, of Quincy, FL, died peacefully on June 10, 2023 at her home.

Born on February 10, 1950 in Martinsburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Edward “Ned” M. and Irene Katheryn (Schneider) Morrow. She graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1968 and West Virginia University in 1972, majoring in journalism. She also attended University of Miami where she received a scholarship for being the featured twirler for the band.

Although Bev grew up in West Virginia, she lived in Florida for more than 45 years, where she raised her daughter, Logan. She worked at The Gadsden County Times newspaper and in the early days of her career, was frequently seen with baby Logan strapped to her front while she sold ads around town. She also had her own silkscreening business, The Screen Door. After a visit to West Virginia to care for her ailing father, Bev decided to go back to school to become a nurse. Subsequently, she worked in hospice, which she loved, providing that same special care to countless other patients and their families.

Bev is remembered by family and friends for her loving spirit, generosity, kindness, and her great sense of humor. One could always count on her to send the funniest cards, share hilarious clips from the internet, and throw the most outrageous parties at her home in the country. Bev had a soft spot for animals. Word must have gotten out, for abandoned pets were frequently left on her property, and she gave many of them a loving home. And, of course, Bev was known for her love of water–whether it was time spent in the swimming pool, relaxing in the hot tub, or snorkeling with friends, especially in St. John in the US Virgin Islands, though Bev was known to pull out the snorkel in a pool, as well.

She was a passionate progressive who believed that all members of our society deserve to be treated with fundamental dignity, decency and respect. But above all, Bev adored Logan, and was so proud of her. Some of Bev’s fondest memories and best (and funniest) stories came from their travels together as well as time spent enjoying the back porch at her home in Gretna.

Survivors are her daughter, Logan Kirk of San Diego, CA; sister, Kathy Sanders, wife of Bob Sanders, of Carolina Shores, NC and their children, Jennifer Sanders Black and Robert A. Sanders III; special cousin, Henry “Bucky” Morrow, Jr. of Charles Town, WV; step-sister, Carolyn West, wife of Ralph West, of Swan Pond, WV and their daughter Megan West; and Logan’s father, Howard Kirk of Tallahassee, FL.

Services will be held this Saturday at 11am at the Gretna Presbyterian Church, Gretna, FL, 623 Church Street, Gretna, FL 32332. Those attending are asked to wear bright colors in lieu of black. Arrangements by Lifesong Funerals & Cremations, Quincy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to: Alzheimer’s Association. Send online at alz.org or send to 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
