As the owner of a 2-year-old French bulldog, I’ve spent the last two years patching (and re-patching) scratches in the walls, disposing of shredded toy stuffing, and wiping dirty paw prints off the furniture — it’s just part of puppyhood. But nothing compares to the struggle of removing accidents from the floors and upholstered furniture. I won’t get into which specific accidents are the worst (okay, it’s the ones of a liquid variety) and why (fine, because they set in almost immediately), but I will tell you what has saved me: this Bissell steam cleaner.

What Is the Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet Portable Carpet Cleaner?

The Little Green Hydrosteam Pet Portable Carpet Cleaner is a compact and portable steam cleaner that works magic on upholstery, carpet, and fabric that might be on the receiving end of your pet. It’s one of Bissell’s newest launches, as it only just dropped this fall.

Originally, I was the proud owner of a classic Bissell Little Green upholstery cleaner — you know, the one that went viral on TikTok during peak pandemic times. It worked great, and I had little to no complaints until I upgraded to the new pet-specific Little Green Hydrosteam. This one has all the features I love about the original Little Green, but with improvements that are especially essential for pet owners, like three different cleaning modes, a quieter run, and more.

What’s So Great About the Bissell Little Green HydroSteam Pet Portable Carpet Cleaner?

First, it’s pretty powerful. I loved the original Little Green because it sucked dirt and grime right out of my carpet and couch cushions, but the Hydrosteam is somehow even more powerful, requiring fewer passes over the surface to effectively extract stains and moisture.

This machine was recently put to the ultimate test when I dropped a full paint sample container onto our nearly brand-new rug. Naturally, this also occurred while I was in the middle of baking two Thanksgiving pies — hey, when it rains it pours! After a few seconds of panic, I lept into action. First, I used paper towels to remove as much of the paint as possible and scrubbed the stain with a stiff-bristled brush to loosen any paint that seeped to the bottom before hitting it with the new-and-improved Little Green. Because wall paint is water-based, it needs to be kept wet in order to get the stain out — if it dries, you’re pretty much stuck with it. Thankfully, it was easy to repeatedly mist the cleaning solution over the stain and keep it hydrated, and with just laundry detergent and water I removed the paint almost entirely. I say “almost” because if I stare and squint at a certain spot on the carpet long enough, I swear I can see it — although it’s very likely that it’s just a me-problem.

Now, not only can I say that the Bissell Little Green Hydrosteam saved our rug from a paint fiasco, but if you’re a pet owner like I am, it’s also an invaluable tool to have at your disposal. Set-in stains and smells never stood a chance.
