How we tested

The way we test carpet cleaners is different from how we test vacuums at the Reviewed labs. we began by testing the Eureka NEY100 on various surfaces. First, we used it to clean a spill of colored water on a thick throw rug. The next test involved cleaning the upholstery on an office chair. In addition to cleaning, we took notes on how easy the unit was to step up, use, and store. This process included weighing it when it was full of water and transporting it around our labs.

What we like

The setup is super easy

You’re more likely to use an appliance if it’s easy to set up and use. If you own a small carpet cleaner, this one will probably be just like that. There are two water tanks—one for clean water and one for dirty water. They can be removed by simply pulling on their respective handles and they are opened via a simple latch.

The NEY100 has a clean and dirty water tank. All of NEY100’s competitors follow a similar design, but we appreciate the fact that the tanks are more clearly labeled than competitors. For example, the Bissell Little Green Machine 1400B also has labels on its tanks, but they’re on the side and the letters are the same color as the tanks themselves.

Filling and emptying each tank is easy—both have a foldable carrying handle and a lid that pops off. We like the simplicity and utility of the design. The handle makes it easy to pull the tanks out and because the tanks sit in a deep well, there’s little chance for spillage.

After filling the clean water tank, you can add cleaning solution directly into the water, so no need to fuss around with a separate detergent tank. In theory, you could use any cleaning solution, but it is easier to use the Eureka solution because the cap doubles as a measuring cup.

Its upholstery and car cleaning capabilities are spot on

The Eureka NEY100 is great at sprucing up upholstery, like the fabric on this office chair.

We tested the NEY100’s ability to clean a thick throw rug, normal carpet, and upholstery. The results showed that this Eureka is suitable for spot-cleaning and maintenance. The compact brush is perfect for tight spaces, pet accidents, and car seats.

Just like with the setup, cleaning is also super intuitive. Pressing down on the trigger releases clean water and a cleaning solution. You scrub out stains by running the bristles over the soiled area and that’s it.

With the long hose and cord, you can easily clean a set of stairs or reach out to your car in a garage.

The Eureka NEY100 is easy to store.

One advantage that the Eureka NEY100 has over competitors like the Bissell Little Green Machine is that has a flat top. Having a flat, squared-off frame makes it way easier to store. You can put things on top of it and the overall footprint is fairly small compared to other competitors.

What we don’t like

This Eureka carpet cleaner is loud

If you’re trying to clean your carpets discreetly, you’re not going to get that with this carpet cleaner. We measured the noise levels during testing and found it to be around 80 dBA—louder than most full-sized vacuums. To put it in perspective, if you’re using the NEY100, your whole house is going to know what you’re doing, maybe even your neighbors.

It’s only effective for cleaning small areas

If you’re thinking about giving your carpets a deep spring cleaning, then the Eureka NEY100 isn’t the best option. You should check out the Bissell Proheat 2X Carpet Cleaner, which is built like an upright vacuum and has a hose attachment to deal with smaller spaces.

The NEY100’s cleaning head is about three inches wide so cleaning an entire rug is a hefty task.

What owners are saying

We reviewed the Eureka NEY100 pretty early in its lifecycle. At the time of publication, we found 27 user reviews on Amazon, with an average rating of 4.8 stars out of five. People cited how they liked the simplicity of the setup and operation. However, some owners were disappointed in the level of suction.

Should you buy the Eureka NEY100 Carpet Cleaner?

Yes, if you want to spot-clean your upholstery and carpets

The Eureka NEY100 is a great solution for anyone who wants something to help them upkeep their upholstery and area rugs. It’s compact, easy to store, and lifts small stains with little setup. And all of this is available at an affordable price. However, if you’re looking for a cleaning device that can cover whole rooms efficiently, we’d suggest checking out the Bissell Proheat 2X Carpet Cleaner.
