A commercial fire in Simi Valley Friday morning closed a stretch of East Los Angeles Avenue for a time.

The blaze was reported shortly before 6:30 a.m. at Quality Carpet & Flooring, a carpet cleaning business at 711 E. Los Angeles Ave., according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The business owner had arrived and found smoke and fire inside when he opened the door, said fire Capt. Brian McGrath. The owner called 911.

The fire in the single-story structure was knocked down within 30 minutes, although crews remained on scene longer for suppression efforts. The main fire was kept to the carpet business, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The response closed westbound Los Angeles Avenue for roughly two hours between Third and Fifth streets. Simi Valley Police Department officers conducted traffic control. Lanes had reopened by 8:45 a.m.

The cause was under investigation, McGrath said.
