FSU football: Hurricane Lee could impact Seminoles game

0

Stop if you’ve heard this before.

It’s September and Florida State football is preparing for its ACC opener with the threat of a hurricane potentially impacting its plans.

The only difference this time, the Seminoles would be greeted with the weather in Massachusetts rather than in Florida.

Hurricane Lee is forecast to make landfall somewhere on the Eastern Coast of the United States this weekend.

There’s also a the chance it could impact No. 3 FSU’s game against Boston College (1-1) at noon Saturday at Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

WeatherTiger posted an update on the Democrat, saying “Lee’s center is mostly likely to track over Maine or Nova Scotia on Sunday.”

“In Boston, the ‘Noles may face driving rain and low-end tropical-storm-force gusts in Boston on Saturday if Lee tracks more towards Maine, or intermittent showers and blustery winds with a path towards Nova Scotia. Either scenario is possible, and storm preparations should be underway in coastal New England. Flooding is also a concern, as Lee will drop rains of 2-4 inches or more on saturated soils in the Northeast.”

While Hurricane Lee grew to a Category 5 storm Friday and currently is a Category 3 with maximum sustained winds near 115 mph, it is expected to make landfall as a Category 1.

As of Wednesday morning, the exact timing and extent of Lee’s winds and rainfall if it hits the US and possibly Canada were still uncertain.

FSU head coach Mike Norvell addressed the concern following Tuesday’s practice, with the Seminoles expected to follow the usual routine until they are told otherwise.

With the Seminoles as the road team, any decision regarding the game will come from Boston College and the ACC.

“Just say some prayers and hope we get some opportunities for it,” Norvell said of potentially playing in extremely windy conditions.

“Wind is always a challenge. When you have quarterbacks who can throw the ball crisp, and obviously our quarterbacks can. It definitely helps in those situations.

“We’re doing all we can. Even today we added a couple of wet ball opportunities in our route drills. Those are the things you can control.”
