While the Hurricanes have a 35-32 edge in rivalry, the Seminoles have won the last two meetings.
The 2021 victory, which broke a four-game losing skid, is now known as the “fourth and 14” game, where quarterback Jordan Travis would convert on fourth and long in the game’s final minute, eventually leading to the winning touchdown.
Last season, FSU upended Miami on the road in a 42-point win, the second-largest margin of victory in the rivalry. The Seminoles are coming off a 24-7 win over Pittsburgh, clinching a spot in the ACC Championship Game while playing without star wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, both of whom will be back today.
Miami lost to NC State, 20-6, falling to ninth in the ACC standings and 6-3 on the year.
No. 4 FSU football extends win streak over Miami to three games in victory
Make it three straight wins for FSU over rival Miami as the Seminoles took down the Hurricanes, 27-20, to improve to 8-0 in the ACC and 10-0 overall.
The game was sold out at a capacity of 79,560.
The Seminoles were powered by the efforts of running back Trey Benson and kicker Ryan Fitzgerald. Benson rushed for 80 yards on 16 attempts for two touchdowns, including the game-winning score in the third quarter.
Fitzgerald made two field goals, one from 22 yards and one from 33 yards. He improves to 13-of-14 on the year, missing only one field goal against Wake Forest.
Keon Coleman added a touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was his 10th score of the season.
Quarterback Jordan Travis threw completed 19-of-31 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown. Wide receiver Johnny Wilson led the receiving game with 82 yards on eight targets in his first game since Oct. (21) vs. Duke.
Trey Benson rushed for 80 of 59 yards, Travis lost 30 yards, on the ground. On defense, Kalen DeLoach recorded 10 tackles and two sacks.
Miami’s Jacolby George recorded 153 yards receiving on five receptions and two touchdowns. Running back Donald Chaney Jr. had 85 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
FSU will face North Alabama next at Doak Campbell on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Miami quarterback Emory Williams leaves game with injury
On fourth and 2, Miami quarterback Emory Williams went down attempting to convert and stayed down after the play was over. Williams was carted off by medical personnel and quarterback Tyler Van Dyke entered the game. Upon further review, Miami was given the first down at its own 22-yard line.
FSU leads Miami, 27-20, with 2:43 left in the fourth quarter.
Jacolby George scores second touchdown of night for Miami
On first and 10 from the Miami 20, Emory Williams finds Jacolby George in traffic and he takes off for the end zone. It’s a 85-yard touchdown reception for George and the Hurricanes are back within seven points of the Seminoles.
One play for 80 yards over 11 seconds. George has 153 yards receiving on five receptions and has been targeted 10 times by Williams.
FSU leads Miami, 27-20, with 8:22 left in the fourth quarter.
Keon Coleman adds fourth-quarter FSU touchdown
A nice punt by Alex Mastromanno starts the Seminoles’ drive at the Miami 10-yard line. Jordan Travis target Keon Coleman in the left end zone corner falls incomplete, but draws a pass interference penalty on Miami. Two plays later, Travis finds Coleman again on the opposite side for a 6-yard touchdown reception.
It’s Coleman’s 10th touchdown of the season. He’s currently at 24 yards receiving on four receptions and has been targeted nine times. Three plays for 10 yards over 1:24 minutes on the scoring drive.
FSU leads Miami, 27-13, with 11:00 left in the fourth quarter.
FSU holding onto touchdown lead at end of third quarter
Off of Trey Benson’s second touchdown of the day, FSU has powered ahead to a seven-point lead against Miami entering the final quarter of the game. Benson has logged 63 yards rushing on 12 attempts, averaging 5.3 yards per carry.
Miami’s lone score in the third quarter was the 51-yard field goal on the opening drive of the quarter. The FSU defense has really clamped down on the Hurricane rushing game in the second half.

Trey Benson’s second touchdown gives FSU lead
Trey Benson continues to stay red hot as he rushed for 38 yards into the end zone to snap the tie and put the Seminole ahead. Johnny Wilson had a big 26-yard reception from Jordan Travis to the Miami 38 to set up the eventual touchdown.
Four plays for 65 yards over 1:19 minutes on the scoring drive. Benson has 65 yards rushing on 11 attempts and both of FSU’s touchdowns. The team had 18 rushes for 20 yards before that run.

Ryan Fitzgerald ties game on second made field goal of night
Ja’Khi Douglas makes a 62-yard reception from Joard Travis to the Miami 5-yard line, but the Seminoles can’t get into the endzone. FSU settles for a 22-yard field goal from Ryan Fitzgerald to tie the game at 13. He is now 13-of-14 on the season and 2-of-2 in the game.
FSU and Miami are tied, 13-13, with 9:26 left in the third quarter.
Hurricanes take lead on 51-yard field goal
Andres Borregales gets redemption from his miss earlier in the game as he nails a 51-yard field goal to give the Hurricanes their first lead of the game on their first possession of the second half. Five plays for 14 yards over 2:48 minutes.
Kalen Deloach, Braden Fiske, Akeem Dent, Renardo Green and Malcolm Ray all had tackles for loss on the drive, forcing Miami to attempt the field goal.
Miami leads FSU, 13-10, with 12:11 left in the third quarter.
Miami ties game at 10 off 27-yard field goal at halftime
After a disastrous possession where FSU nearly allowed a safety after Jordan Travis was taken down in the end zone, Miami finds its way deep into the Seminoles red zone off an 18-yard gain from Donald Chaney to the FSU 13. Hurricanes can’t find the endzone and settle for a 27-yard field goal.
Andres Borregales makes the field goal to put Miami to tie the game at 10. Chaney has scorched the FSU defense tonight, rushing for 80 yards on seven attempts. Emory Williams is 5-of-11 passing for 84 yards and one touchdown. Jacolby George has 71 yards receiving on seven attempts.
For FSU, Jordan Travis is 9-of-15 passing for 105 yards. Trey Benson has 27 yards rushing on 10 attempts and a touchdown. Jaheim Bell has 41 yards receiving on three attempts. Keon Coleman has not made a catch and has not been targeted by Travis.
Kalen DeLoach has had an impressive showing early, recording six tackles and two sacks. Azareye’h Thomas has two tackles and two pass breakups.
FSU and Miami are tied, 10-10, at halftime.
Jacolby George gets Miami on the board
Donald Chaney Jr. combines for 61 yards rushing on the drive, setting up a 3-yard passing touchdown from Williams for George to put Miami on the board. It’s the Hurricanes’ second trip into the red zone, but this time they’re able to convert.

Ryan Fitzgerald makes 33-yard field goal for 10 point FSU lead
Seminoles struggle to find the end zone at the start of the first quarter bringing in Ryan Fitzgerald for a 33-yard field goal attempt. He makes the attempt, improving for 12-13 on the season and extends the FSU lead to 10 points.

Trey Benson’s ninth touchdown of the season springs FSU out to a 7-0 lead early. Miami had a chance to get on the board but missed from 51 yards out.
Beson has 28 yards rushing on seven attempts, Johnny Wilson has 25 yards receiving and Jaheim Bell has 25 yards receiving. Jorda Travis is 7-of-10 passing for 88 yards. He has targeted Bell the most, three times. Miami’s Mark Fletcher has 18 yards rushing on four attempts. Williams is 1-of-4 passing for 43 yards.

Miami misses 51-yard field goal wide left
After Williams finds Jacolby George for a 43-yard gain to the FSU 25-yard-line, Miami faces fourth and 18, sending Andres Borregales for a 51-yard field goal attempt. He misses wide left and the Hurricanes fail to get on the scoreboard.
From the way this game has gone in the past, missed field goals could be big. FSU driving from its own 34-yard line.

Trey Benson muscles his way into end zone for early FSU lead
After a long touchdown run was called back due to him stepping out of bounds, Benson powers in on a short 5-yard rush into the endzone to give FSU the early lead. An impressive strength play from Benson as he had two Miami defenders pushing him back

Jordan Travis leads quarterback room out for warm-ups
FSU quarterback Jordan Travis has taken the field with Tate Rodemaker, Brock Glenn and AJ Duffy for pregame warm-ups. Keon Coleman and Deuce Spann are both warming up with the returners. Coleman and Spann didn’t play last week against Pitt. Kentron Poitier is also warming up. He was limited last week against Pitt.
Miami players have taken the field for warm-ups, met by boos from FSU fans.
NFL Scouts from the Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts are in attendance.
There are also scouts from Peach Bowl, Gator Bowl, Hula Bowl, Pop-Tarts Bowl and Lott Impact Trophy.

Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke benched, freshman Emory Williams starting
Via Adam Lichtenstein from the Sun Sentinel, Miami has chosen not to start veteran quarterback Tyler Van Dyke instead going with freshman Emory Williams in today’s game. Williams has played in three games this season, completing 36-of-48 passes for 295 yards and one touchdown.
His last action was in a 28-20 overtime win against Clemson on Oct. 21.

FSU receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson are back
Jordan Travis’ top targets, wide receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson, are set to return to the starting lineup today against Miami.
Coleman (undisclosed) missed last week’s 24-7 victory over Pittsburgh. He traveled with the team but did not ultimately dress out. He leads the Seminoles with 38 catches for 538 yards and nine touchdowns.
Wilson, who missed the last two road contests against Wake Forest and Pittsburgh, last played against Duke on Oct. 21 when he left in the third quarter. – Ehsan Kassim
