Nestled in Tallahassee’s vibrant Midtown, Lucy and Leo’s Cupcakery has been a staple for town’s candy tooth for over a decade. Sadly, after twelve years of delighting their neighborhood with zany and scrumptious cupcakes, Jean Bates and Paula Lucas are hanging up their aprons.

After graduating FSU along with her MBA in 2008, Jean, alongside along with her co-owner, Paula, launched the candy store within the bitter recession, with the mission of offering “cheap luxuries” to their dwelling metropolis. Named for his or her two neighborhood canines, Lucy and Leo’s is beloved for his or her vegan and gluten-free choices, making the candy treats accessible to all. Their love of the 2 pups spurred them to accomplice with the Animal Shelter Basis, for whom they host advantages.

As well as to their philanthropic efforts, Lucy and Leo’s is remembered for his or her look on Meals Community’s Cupcake Wars. This memorable look introduced notoriety to the store, and the homeowners remarked that Meals Community followers have traveled from far and vast to pattern the delectable Margherita or Hummingbird cupcakes.

The Cupcakery shared its area with the beloved native bookshop, Midtown Reader, a partnership the crew described as “phenomenal” and one they may actually miss. I’m certain the companions have massive plans for the long run, and naturally we’re selfishly hoping for some kind of native foodie endeavor. Regardless of the future might maintain, we certain do want them nicely. If I ever noticed their meals truck, a Tallahassee staple, in our neighborhood or at meals truck Thursday, it was ALWAYS a “sure” to a four-pack of selection cupcakes. The Cupcakery will formally shut its doorways on September 26th.
