Hora-Machacek Legion Auxiliary #453 met on Tuesday, May 2 at the Clutier post home with 8 members in attendance. President Veronica opened the meeting and Chaplain Mary said prayer. All recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and the Preamble to the Constitution of the Auxiliary. Courtney C, our 2022 girl stater, gave an informative report on girls state, she attended in Des Moines in June 2022. She participated in the political aspects of electing government officials. Listened to several speakers during the week. She would encourage any girl to go if given the opportunity to attend girls state.

Veronica called the roll and read April’s minutes which were approved as read. Treasurer Diane gave our unit’s financial report. Discussion was about a storage unit for auxiliary and have talked to the Legion. No decision at this time. Pauline S. made a motion to pay Linda D for the 4 dozen cookies she made for Government Day, seconded by Collette W. Motion carried.

Diane C. did graveside memorial service on April 11 at National Cemetery for Martha Plucar and at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery for Helen Sevcik. Linda D. and Diane C. went and helped with IVH bingo on April 19 Pauline S, Nancy C, and Diane C. helped on April 26th at County Government Day in Toledo. Linda D. had made chocolate chip cookies our unit was to provide. There were 20 students from North Tama and 16 students from South Tama in attendance.

Diane had received a thank you letter from IVH for the carpet balls they received from us in March and a second letter for carpet balls they received in April. She reported 2023 volunteer hours on the impact report our members had spent sewing lap quilts and cutting and crocheting grocery bags this last year. Diane made a motion seconded by Linda to amend our by-laws. Deleting #8 and #12 and changing dues amount on #9. Motion carried.

On Tuesday, May 23 members are encouraged to come to the Legion hall and assist in cleaning and preparing crosses and trellises for Memorial weekend. They will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, Mary 27 Legionnaires and Auxiliary members will gather at 9 a.m. at the hall. They will go and place crosses on Veterans’ graves and trellises on Auxiliary members’ graves at our local cemeteries in honor of Memorial weekend. Monday, May 29 the Legion will salute the Veterans at each local cemetery beginning at the Legion hall at 8:30 a.m.

Happy birthday was sung to Courtney C. Linda D. won the door prize. Veronica gave a May Day-Mothers Day gift to each lady. It was a crochet half towel to hang on their stove oven door. The June meeting will be on the 6th at 1:30 p.m. Linda D. was hostess and served delicious cheesecake.
