TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Dozens of officers are swarming an area of North Tallahassee after an officer was injured there, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

At least five Tallahassee Police vehicles and officers are gathered near the Howard Johnson by Wyndham hotel on North Monroe Street. The presence started just before 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The nature and severity of the officer’s injuries are not clear. It is also not clear at this time what events led up to the injury. TPD announced they will host a press briefing on the incident later this afternoon when that information is available.

The department wrote in a post on social media that motorists should “use caution and expect traffic delays” while officers work the scene on the 2700 block of North Monroe Street.

Law enforcement was originally spotted in multiple areas of the capital city, but the focus now appears to be on North Monroe Street. Leon County Schools spokesperson Chris Petley said the police activity does not pose a threat to Raa Middle School.

The road was shut down near Hustler Hollywood, according to Tallahassee traffic cameras, but there appears to be some movement now. Cameras are also showing a heavy traffic backup in the area. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution.

“One southbound lane of North Monroe Street is shut down as the investigation continues,” TPD wrote on social media.

Crime scene tape and evidence markers are on the ground near the Howard Johnson by Wyndham hotel in that area. Officers are walking in the area as they work the scene.

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story reported a police presence near Raa Middle School. Leon County Schools said there was never a threat to Raa Middle School.
