  1. Compressed air, NOT a leaf blower. Also not a great idea for large open areas (unless properly setup with other equipment) . mainly good for cracks and crevices (Think keyboard duster) or areas hard to reach and particulate matter a vac has trouble picking up. Compressed air allows you to "dial in" the force of air. The actual purpose for this type of "idea" is to blow (disrupt) smaller microns of particulate matter (I.E. smaller than your upright or shop vac filters can filter out before exhausting them back out into the environment. Typically smaller than .3 micron; Any smaller your vac is simply releasing it back out into the air.) Properly done you would seal off the contaminated room, set up negative air (ducting out) and air scrubbers (in) with filters rated for the micron of particulates you are removing. Then use your compressed air to "blow" or disrupt these particulates sending them airborne to be removed by the air cleaners, scrubbers etc. This process would be classified as decontamination, not cleaning. Proper safety equipment such as respirators (also fitted with proper filtration to filter out the same micron of particle you are sending airborne. Otherwise in to the lungs it goes) eye protection, HAZMAT etc. would be a must hence the term "decontamination" VS "cleaning" Most of the time you would be dealing with "construction dust" or "dust" from a remodel like fine sheetrock "dust", sawdust etc. If proper filtration was not used during construction. Sometimes soot removal from fire damage and of course the good old mold spore 🤢 Anywhooooo. Hope this sheds a little light on why and how this method of moving dry particles does and can be used and maybe what the person that gave you this "tip" was thinking but obviously on a more novice level 😉 The take away for anyone reading this needs to be NEVER send ANY particulate matter into the air you do not have the proper equipment setup to filter out and then return clean, scrubbed air back into the environment. Otherwise you are doing more harm than good to yourself and others around you. 🤪🤪
