Mary Frances Thompson, 79, passed away peacefully in her home on January 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Frances, or “Granny” as she was affectionately known, was born on May 21, 1944, in Sneads, Florida, to Johnnie and Verna Mae Porter. She graduated from Blountstown High School in 1962 and soon thereafter moved to Tallahassee, where she met and married Glen Thompson, her loving husband of 58 years.
She is survived by her husband, Glen, son Kevin (Cynthia), daughter Melanie (Hal) Lewis, her four grandchildren, Lindsi and Jenna Allman (Jesse Belc-Powell), Calynne and Ashlynne Thompson, and her siblings Margaret, Sybil, and Johnny Mack. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Milton.
Frances was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, but above all, she was a faithful follower of Christ. She knew the Lord as her Savior and exemplified His love to everyone around her. Her steadfast devotion and remarkable strength are qualities she will be dearly remembered by. She enjoyed spending her time cooking, arranging flowers, taking photos (or “making pictures” as she would call it), reading, walking and being with loved ones. She cherished life and treasured every moment the Lord gave her.
The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Dorothy Stanfill for the tender and attentive care she took with Frances over the past year and a half. The family also extends their thanks to the nurses and care managers at Big Bend Hospice for the thoughtful care provided to Frances and the family.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 3 – 5 p.m. at Bevis Funeral Home located at 200 John Knox Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32303. Funeral services will be held at Bevis Funeral Home on Monday, January 29, 2024 beginning at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at Tallahassee National Cemetery, located at 5015 Apalachee Parkway, Tallahassee, FL 32311.
