TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The day after dozens of dogs were seized from a Tallahassee pet rescue, authorities returned to take the owner’s pigs.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office Livestock Team and Animal Control removed 33 pigs from Judy Du Bois’s property on Robin Road over the weekend, according to a press release shared Wednesday. The news comes less than a week after the rescue owner was arrested and accused of criminal animal cruelty.

“The pigs will remain in Animal Control custody, pending a legal outcome in the case,” the release said.

A judge granted Du Bois bail last week, but the court also ordered her to refrain from having any animals under her possession or control. She is charged with five counts of animal cruelty and five counts of holding animals without sufficient food or water. All 10 charges are misdemeanors.

Court records allege the rescue owner held animals in “inhumane” conditions. In addition to last week’s seizure, dozens of dogs were removed from the Du Bois Rescue along Sparrow Road last month.

“Once the animals were secured, the immediate priority was ensuring their well-being and proper care,” the LCSO statement said. “Working in collaboration with a trusted, community partner, arrangements were made to relocate the pigs to a secure location.”

After volunteers helped the Leon County teams remove the swine from Du Bois’s facilities, officials discovered several of the pigs to be pregnant. Just hours after they were moved, one of the pigs gave birth to a litter of piglets, the sheriff’s office said in a press release. Eight of the 10 piglets survived, an LCSO spokesperson said.

It is the latest twist since law enforcement shared the shocking allegations against Du Bois.

“This unexpected turn of events necessitated additional attention to ensure the health and welfare of the newborns,” the sheriff’s office said.

Du Bois will be back in court for a case management hearing at the start of next month, according to the county clerk’s website.
