A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle near the campus of Florida State University Monday evening.

“TPD is currently investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred near the intersection of Lorene and Pensacola Street at approximately 6:40 p.m.” the Tallahassee Police Department wrote in a post to X. “The pedestrian, an adult female, was struck by a vehicle and died as a result of her injuries.”

On a Facebook group for the parents of FSU students, commenters said their children witnessed the crash and described it as a hit-and-run. It was not immediately clear if the victim was an FSU student. When reached for comment, a watch commander referred questions to a TPD spokesperson, who did not immediately respond to a text.

As police investigate, Pensacola Street from Woodward Ave to Gray Street is closed. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
