Restaurant closures: Maple Street Biscuit Company winds

0

After seven years of serving its flaky buttermilk biscuits and southern breakfast delights, Maple Street Biscuit Company has closed its Four Oaks Center location in northeast Tallahassee.

“Thank you Killearn” is in bold on a sign in front of the doors, greeting customers who may have been looking to grab some of their favorites.

Brown paper held together with blue masking tape now shields the grand windows. Staff could be seen cleaning the restaurant early Tuesday morning. The northeast location briefly closed in February after dealing with electrical issues, but reopened.

The reason for the now-permanent closing seems straightforward: According to a Maple Street Biscuit representative, who asked not to be named, the restaurant’s lease ended and owners did not seek to renew it.

At the same time, the sign outside says the company “need(s) time to learn how to better serve the Tallahassee community.” The store’s management could not immediately be reached for additional comments.

There’s good news, however, for Maple Street Biscuit fans: The location at 1600 W. Call St. near the FSU campus remains open.

Fans are coming to terms with news of the permanent closure after posts of the signs began to circulate on Facebook food groups.

One user commented: “That’s so sad. I went there for the first time a few weeks ago, and everything was so good!”
