Sheffield Ayers Anderson, 63, of Tallahassee, passed at home surrounded by family on Friday, May 17, 2024, after a long illness. He was a sixth-generation Floridian being descended from among the earliest settlers of Monticello and Jefferson County. He was a combat veteran of the Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, serving in the U.S. Army First Infantry Division. He earned a bachelors degree from Florida State University and a masters degree from the University of West Florida. He served in a number of positions in State government retiring in 2023 as an investigator with the Office of the Attorney General. At a young age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church of Tallahassee.

Survivors include his wife Kelly Monohan, stepson Nicholas Michael (Danielle) Hogue, step-granddaughter Harley Quinn Vega, brother Joseph Duff (Stephanie) Anderson, nieces Samantha Anderson (Justin) Curtis and Taylor Suzanne (Guillermo Sanchez) Anderson, nephew Joseph Duff Jr. (Natasha) Anderson, great-nieces Hadley Ann Curtis, Amelia Jo Curtis, Mazie Sylvia Sanchez, and Chloe Taylor Sanchez, first cousins Charles Christopher Anderson III, Wilbur Winston Anderson, and James Leysath Anderson, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Isham Lafayette Anderson Sr. and Mary Catherine Duff Anderson and a brother Isham Lafayette Anderson II.

A committal service with military honors will be held at Tallahassee National Cemetery (5015 Apalachee Pkwy) on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and Big Bend Hospice.
