Friday: Florida State battles back after 102-minute rain delay but falls short 8-7

Blame the lack of a mid-week game, hour-and-a-half rain delay, or NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan, but the Seminoles did not bring their best to the ballpark today.

Friday nights have become synonymous with Jamie Arnold’s dominance, but the future All-American battled shaky command, infield hits, and a weather delay….{continued}

With less than a month until the NCAA reveals the baseball bracket, Florida State put itself on the inside track to host a regional and receive a national seed.

The ‘Noles needed a series victory on the road against a ranked opponent to improve its resume, and they did just that, taking two out of three against Duke after dropping a road series last week….{continued}

After playing a double header on Friday, where Florida State softball split the day with Syracuse, they headed into their final game on Saturday.

The No. 14 Florida State softball team (41-12, 19-4) split a doubleheader with Syarcuse (28-22, 8-15) on Friday at Skytop Softball Stadium. The Orange took the first game 4-3, but FSU responded with a 3-2 win to even the series.

Game 2
The Seminoles used a three-run second inning and some great pitching and defense to take the Orange 3-2 in the second game of the day…..

The Seminoles’ leading scorer and rebounder last season, Wakins transferred to FSU by way of VCU.

Florida State has seen a flurry of departures via the portal this offseason — Watkins, Warley, Cam’Ron Fletcher, Cam Corhen, Primo Spears, Baba Miller, De’Ante Green, and Tom House have elected to enter — with the Seminoles adding transfers in Jerry Deng (Hampton), Malique Eqin (No. 1 JUCO prospect out of South Plains College), Justin Thomas (UTSA) and Bostyn Holt (South Dakota)…..{continued}

In the latest addition to the Seminoles’ roster, South Dakota forward Bostyn Holt has committed to FSU.

His game—not his talent— reminds of Kyle Anderson (who himself is a poor man’s Scottie Barnes). He uses his body in the paint to get position and shoot over the top of smaller defenders. and gets to the free throw line a lot. He has nice court vision and uses size to pass over people, with actually a pretty nice assist rate…..{continued}

Florida State men’s basketball has added another name to its 2024-25 roster, with Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reporting that UTSA Roadrunners transfer Justin Thomas has committed to the Seminoles.

Thomas, a 6-foot-7 guard, started off his career at the JUCO level before moving on to Milwaukee and subsequently, UTSA, though he didn’t find his way onto the court this past season.

Thomas does seem capable of initiating offense in limited capacity, and appears to be pretty decently quick laterally and his block/steal rates at Milwaukee support that…..{continued}

The boys are back.

Not the Florida State Seminoles men’s basketball team, who are missing from the NCAA Tournament for the third year in a row, but rather Matt Minnick and Michael Rogner, hosts of The Gospel of Ham.

In this episode, Minnick and Rogner reflect on Florida State’s 2023-2024 basketball season — an inconsistent and frustrating year from the Seminoles that the duo attributes to a lack of competitiveness and defensive issues.

The two also talk about the ACC’s performance in the tournament, noting the conference’s overachievement relative to seeding and discussing reasons behind this trend, such as the ACC being undervalued by metrics and poor conference scheduling: a reflection of ACC leadership’s strategies and the conference’s overall management, especially in comparison to other conferences.

They also discuss FSU’s roster, from the impact of departing players (De’Ante Green, Baba Miller and Primo Spears) to potential transfers and recruits for Florida State, emphasizing the need for experienced players from winning programs to improve the team’s competitiveness and toughness.
