Obituary For Mr. Sylvester Preston Hooks
Sylvester Preston Hooks, 92, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Big Bend Hospice, Inc., Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Old West Florida Enrichment Center, with burial at Tallahassee Memory Gardens.
He was educated in the public schools of Jefferson County, graduating from Monticello High School, Class of 1949. After high school he attended Florida A&M University. He was baptized and confirmed at an early age at Thompson Valley AME Church, Monticello, FL.
Sylvester was a hard worker, always working two jobs and excelled in his fields. He began his career and was employed with Willis Lumber Company, Elberta Crate Factory, Hanson Wood & Hall Concrete Block Plant, Waste Management, Management Services, and retired as a manager with Leon County School Board.
He leaves to cherish his memory his companion, Ms. Mamie Douglas “Cookie”, three daughters, Marilyn, Sonya (James) and Janice; fours sons, Sylvester Jr., Clarence, Troy and Vernon Hooks; siblings, Arthur Hooks (Doris), Elmina Hooks-Henderson, Rosette Hooks-Nealy, Bennie Mae Hooks-Moultry(Tony), Dorothy Hooks-Wilson and Clara Hooks-Hughs and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents and grandparents, Sylvester was preceded in death by his sister, Florida May H. Murphy and a brother, Benjamin Franklin Hooks, Jr. Send flowers to the service of Mr. Sylvester Preston Hooks
