TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – There’s nothing like Panhandle Conference basketball, and last year, two teams from the conference made it to the Final Four of the NJCAA national tournament, Northwest Florida State and Tallahassee Community College. Wednesday night, the two face off in TCC’s conference opener.

Northwest settled for National Runner-Up last season, and they’re currently ranked third in the country.

Tallahassee has a new head coach in Corey Hendren, but the guys haven’t slowed down. They’re 14-4 on the year, and are ready for another run this season.

Coach said they’re excited and up for the challenge in facing the Raiders Wednesday night, and he likes where this team is heading in.

“There’s a different level of focus and attention when it comes to conference,” he said at practice Monday. “We like to say we could keep them locked in like that all the time, but there’s a natural excitement. Now you have to act on it. You have to show you can compete with the best in the country, you can go out there and really just be ready for what the game throws at you because each game in this league is going to be different, but in itself is going to be a battle.”

The guys face Northwest Wednesday night at 7:30 tip. The women play first at 5:30 .
