TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Panhandle Conference play kicks off Wednesday for the Tallahassee Community College women’s basketball team, and what an intro, as the Eagles welcome in defending national champion Northwest Florida State to the Eagledome.

The Raiders are currently 16-0 and ranked number one in the country, so TCC head coach Mercedes Corona knows the task that awaits her team. In her second season, she has four experienced sophomores and eight talented freshman, all girls who have been working hard and are ready for Conference play to begin.

“Excitement in the gym has been a lot better. Our focus has been a lot better,” she said before practice Monday. “I think they’re really starting to understand the importance of it, and how hard it’s about to get. I think for them, it’s going to be a fun and exciting time. You can’t ask for a better match-up day in and day out in this conference. I think a lot of them are ready to prove themselves, and I think as a team, they’re ready to prove themselves.”

Game time for the ladies is at 5:30 on Wednesday. The Eagle men also hold Northwest Wednesday night, a game the follows the women’s match-up.
