Florida Highway Patrol troopers chased a suspect in their vehicles and on foot yesterday near Capital Circle NE and I-10. The troopers caught the man outside Keiser University by tasing him. FHP was not able to give details on why the man was initially pulled over that caused the chase to ensue.

The Florida State football program received penalties Thursday from the NCAA after an infractions case involving an assistant football coach. The two infractions were determined to be level two violations, and the penalties will be enacted over a two year period starting January 12th, 2024.

LOCAL SPORTS NEWS

Florida State football landed Terrence Ferguson – an offensive line transfer from Alabama – from the transfer portal yesterday. The Georgia native appeared in five games, contributing at both guard spots while making the first start of his career in Alabama’s win over USF this past season.

Yesterday amid rumors of coaching changes, it was reported that Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell was one of the front runners to replace Nick Saban at Alabama. While other coaches – like Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said that he is staying at Oregon – Norvell tweeted, “Future is bright in Tallahassee.”

FLORIDA NEWS

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit ruled against Gov. Ron DeSantis in former State Attorney Andrew Warren’s appeal over his suspension by the governor in 2022. In the court’s ruling, as obtained by ABC, it said that Warren won his election via the voters of his district and that DeSantis suspended him over protected 1st Amendment speech, such as vowing to not enforce abortion restrictions or legislation “targeting the transgender community.”

During an event hosted by the Never Back Down super PAC, the Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis cited Richard Corcoran as an example of someone who opposed him at one point, before becoming a key part of his administration. DeSantis was discussing building bridges across the political spectrum.

Legislation by Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Seminole, establishing an online pregnancy resource hub unanimously passed the Florida House Healthcare Regulation Subcommittee on Thursday. Sen. Erin Grall, R-Fort Pierce, filed the Senate companion bill, SB 436. The Florida Department of Health would contract with a third party to develop the site.

Annual inflation in the US rose 3.4% in December, a 0.3% rise from November and slightly higher than analysts’ expectations, according to new government data released yesterday. Inflation peaked in June 2022 at 9.1% and has remained under 4% since May.
