BOSTON COLLEGE VS. FLORIDA STATE – ALL-TIME SERIES

  • Today’s game marks the 24th meeting between the two schools and is the second of two regular season matchups in 2023-24.
  • Boston College is 9-14 all-time vs. Florida State. On Feb. 20, the Eagles dropped a 63-62 decision at home vs. FSU. 
  • Last year, BC won, 75-69, at the Donald L. Tucker Center. It marked the first win for the Eagles in Tallahassee in 16 years.
  • Boston College is 2-9 all-time in games at Florida State. 
  • The Eagles and Seminoles are 4-4 in their last eight matchups. Five of those games were decided by single digits.  

MASON MADSEN, FOR STARTERS

  • Since entering the starting lineup three games ago, Mason Madsen is averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists. and 1.0 steals.
  • On Feb. 17, Madsen drilled a career-high seven 3-pointers en route to a career-high 25 points in a win over Miami.
  • Over the last three games, Madsen is also posting a 3.50:1 ATR.
  • In the Feb. 13 win over Louisville, the 6-4 guard had 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and a block in 23 minutes.
  • Madsen had a team-high 15 points (6-11 FG) at Duke on Feb. 10.
  • In four games as a starter this year, Madsen is averaging 16.3 points per game He had 14 points and five boards at Clemson on Jan. 13.
  • In the 21 games he came off the bench, Madsen averaged 6.1 points per game in nearly 17 minutes per outing.
  • He ranks second on BC in 3FG% (38-83, .458) and third in 3FGM (31) and has connected on all 28 of his FT attempts.

POST AMONG NATION’S ELITE

  • Quinten Post is one of the best players in the country and his stat line for the Eagles this season is perfect evidence.
  • He is the only player in the country averaging at least 16.4 points, 7.7 boards, 2.9 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game.
  • Using only points and rebounds: Post is one of seven major conference players averaging at least 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game; two in the ACC (Flipkowski, Omier); four of those players are on the Wooden midseason list.
  • Using only points and assists: Post is one of 20 major conference players to average at least 16.4 points and 2.9 assists per game.  Since 1996-97, he is one of seven major conference players 6-10 or taller to average 16.4 ppg/2.9 apg. 
  • Post is also posting nearly a 50/40/80 line of shooting percentages – at 51.4 FG%, 46.1 3FG%, and 78.6 FT%.
  • Post is one of two players in the nation to post those percentages (min. 16.0 ppg).
  • It’s not a small sample: in 74 games at BC since 2021-22, Post has registered nearly a 50/40/80 shooting line – .517 FG; .426 3FG; .782 FT. – the only active player (min. 10.0 ppg) to post such shooting lines since the start of 2021-22- present.
  • Over the past three seasons vs. major conference opponents (56 games), Post is averaging 13.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.3 blocks while shooting .519/.440/.771.

MOST IMPROVED McGLOCKTON

  • Devin McGlockton is one of the ACC’s Most Improved Players, showing major jumps in several stat categories
  • Through 25 games, McGlockton is fourth on the Eagles in scoring (10.9) and second in rebounding (6.4) and blocks (1.0).
  • McGlockton’s per game averages have increased across the board: scoring +4.8, rebounding +2.1, and blocked shots +0.3.
  • In ACC play (14 games), McGlockton is averaging 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds in 33 minutes per game.
  • Year-over-year, he has almost tripled his scoring (+8.0) and more than doubled his rebounding (+4.1) in ACC games.
  • McGlockton ranks first in the league in FG percentage (ACC games only) at .623 (76-122); up from .500 a year ago.
  • The 6-7 forward has scored in double figures in 10 of 14 ACC games.
  • McGlockton registered the seventh-highest single-game scoring total in ACC play – a 30-point performance at Georgia Tech.

THE JAEDEN ZACKERY 1,000 POINT WATCH IS UNDERWAY

  • Jaeden Zackery is 15 points away from becoming the 46th member of Boston College’s 1,000-point club.
  • The junior guard has scored 985 points in 91 career games as an Eagle – a 10.8 points per game average.
  • He would become the first BC player to join the 1,000-point club since Nik Popovic did so during the 2019-20 season.

  • Quinten Post is tied for 10th all-time on BC’s career blocked shots list. He has 94 swats in 74 games. 
  • Jaeden Zackery is nine steals away from cracking Boston College’s all-time top 10 list.  He has 150 swipes in 91 games.
  • Zackery also ranks ninth on BC’s all-time 3-point field goal percentage list, connecting on .384 for his career (100-259).

Season

  • Post’s 46 blocked shots this season rank as the ninth-most in a single-season in Boston College history.
  • Devin McGlockton’s .594 field goal percentage mark would rank as the seventh-best single-season FG proficiency mark. 
  • Claudell Harris Jr. needs 15 more 3-pointers to crack the top 10 mark for most 3FGM in a single-season.

POSSESSION IS THE BETTER PART OF VALOR

  • Boston College’s 1.37:1 assist/turnover ratio ranks as the second-best mark in program history and the best since 2005-06.
  • BC’s assist/turnover ratio ranks 68th nationally – and seventh in the ACC – having compiled 355 assists to 260 turnovers.
  • Since turnovers were compiled as a statistic in 1978-79, BC has registered an ATR of 1.30:1 or better only four times.

McBLOCKTON

CAN’T KNOCK THE HUSTLE

  • Boston College is 5-2 this year, 7-1 in 2022-23 and 13-4 since Feb. 21, 2022 when Jaeden Zackery scores at least 15 points.
  • Zackery tallied a career-high 21 points in nearly 39 minutes of play at The Citadel on Nov. 10.
  • Against Notre Dame, Zackery had a team-high 20 points, grabbing three rebounds, and dropping three dimes.
  • On Dec. 8 against Holy Cross, Zackery led BC with 18 points to go with five boards, four assists, and a steal.
  • When Zackery goes to the free throw line at least five times, BC is 3-3 this year, was 7-2 in 2022-23, and is 12-6 all-time.
  • Zackery has committed one or fewer turnovers in 12 games in 2023-24 and has 42 total turns in 790 minutes this year.
  • Boston College has won 13 of its last 16 games when Zackery commits one or fewer turnovers in a game.
  • Zackery is one of three ACC players (Beekman – 13; Mintz – 13; Zackery – 12) with at least 12 games of 10 pts/4 asst/2 stl.

  • Prior to this season, it marks the team’s highest scoring total since Feb. 16, 2022 vs. Notre Dame (95).
  • The 95 points at Georgia Tech ties for the third-most points scored by BC in an ACC game since joining the league in 2005-06.
  • It the most points in a regulation game for BC since Jan. 1, 2017, when BC tallied 96 points in a home win over Syracuse.
  • It ties as the highest single-game scoring total of the Earl Grant era and tied for the most points in a regulation Division I game under Grant as a head coach (95 pts at CofC vs. Hofstra – Feb. 14, 2019)
  • In ACC play, Boston College has scored better than 80 points on four occasions – all wins.
  • In nine-plus seasons between College of Charleston and Boston College,  Earl Grant-coached teams are 48-6 when they score at least 80 points, 25-3 when they score at least 85, and 8-2 when scoring 90 or more.

COMEBACK KINGS

  • Six of Boston College’s 15 wins have come when the Eagles have trailed by double digits: Richmond (14, 1st half); Harvard (10, 2nd half); vs. St. John’s (10, 2nd half), at Georgia Tech (16, 2nd half); Notre Dame (12, 1st half); Louisville (10, 1st half).
  • Boston College’s 16-point comeback win at Georgia Tech was the largest for the Eagles since Jan. 15, 2022.
  • On that date, the Eagles came back from 23 down in the first half at Clemson to win by two – 70-68.
  • The 16-point comeback at GT was the third-most in BC history, behind Clemson (23) and Kent State (18) on Dec. 29, 2004.

LOW TURNOVER COUNT

  • Boston College ranks 52nd nationally (6th in ACC) in turnovers per game, committing 10.4 turnovers per game.
  • It would rank as the lowest turnovers/game rate since Boston College tracked the stat beginning in 1979-80.
  • Previously, the lowest turnovers per game rate was 2010-11, when BC committed 11.1 turns per outing.
  • BC has registered single-digits in the TO column 14 times (10-4 in those games), including 3-1 in games with five or fewer.
