Two people shot at Tallahassee gas station Wednesday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Two people were shot at a gas station in Tallahassee on Wednesday night, according to a watch commander with the Tallahassee Police Department.

Police received the call around 9:10 p.m. and responded to the McKenzie Market on Apalachee Parkway just east of Capital Circle Southeast, said the watch commander who could not provide an update on what led up to the shooting, the conditions of the people involved, or information on the shooter.

It is unclear if any suspects were at large or if there was a threat to the public.

More than a dozen police vehicles were on the scene at about 10 p.m. when a WCTV crew arrived. Investigators were initially focused on the interior of the convenience store and an area behind the cash register. Later, officers with flashlights were looking through areas around the perimeter of the parking lot and near the roadway. The crime scene encompassed the gas station, convenience store, and parking lot, as well as the parking lot of the neighboring Regions Bank.

Officers on the scene and the Tallahassee Police watch commander, who fields media calls after hours, directed WCTV to contact TPD public information officers for follow-up questions. Those officers did not respond to more than four phone calls and voicemails from WCTV asking for information on the shooting, including questions on if there was a threat to the public.

More than two and a half hours after the shooting, the scene was still active and there was no word on any arrests or suspects.

WCTV first learned of the large police presence at the gas station from a tip by a concerned citizen. The Tallahassee Online Police Statistics Map (TOPS) had the shooting listed as “assisting other agencies.” When contacted by phone, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer said their agency was not at the scene.
