While West Virginia fans have been getting repeatedly hit with bad news break after bad news break this offseason, the Mountaineer faithful have something to smile about with the commitment of Florida State transfer guard Jeremiah Bembry.

Bembry redshirted last season at Florida State and while he doesn’t have a proven track record to go off of at the college basketball level yet, he stands as a towering 6-foot-6 point guard with upside worth a roster spot.

Coming out of high school Bembry was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and ranked as the 38th-overall guard prospect in the class of 2022. He also checked in as the seventh-ranked player in the state of Pennsylvania just six spots behind players like Derrick Lively II who is currently playing in the NBA Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks after a one-and-done season at Duke.

247Sports’ director of basketball scouting Jerry Meyer had this to say about Jeremiah Bembry in his evaluation coming out of high school, “At 6-foot-6 Bembry has tremendous length for a point guard. Extremely thin, though. Needs to put on mass and strength to be effective at the college level. The lefty has a reliable, keep-them-honest shot. More of a set shot than a jump shot. Prefers to penetrate. Ambidextrous handler and finisher, whose best dribble move is a left-to-right crossover. He’s a crafty player with body control who loves to utilize the Euro-step, pivots, and fakes. Sees the court well while on the move. Has a post-up game, and is a versatile defender with good hands. With weight gain, he should develop into a good rebounder.”

Bembry now joins a squad in the midst of some ongoing drama with former WVU head coach Bob Huggins who is threatening the university to earn reinstatement as the head coach of the Mountaineers basketball team. The Pennsylvania native is now set to join Josh Eilert and the Mountaineers in figuring out what the roster will look like come day one of the Big 12 basketball season.
