TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Pitt women’s basketball team (7-12, 0-8 ACC) fell on the road Sunday afternoon to the Florida State Seminoles by the score of 74-37.

Avery Strickland and Dayshanette Harris led the Panthers with nine points each in the road loss while Cynthia Ezeja grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Amber Brown opened the scoring for Pitt with a contested layup through contact and Avery Strickland knocked down to give Pitt the early 5-3 lead.
  • The Seminoles responded with a 7-0 run to send the game to the media timeout with the home side leading 10-5.
  • Dayshanette Harris came off the bench and scored three straight for the Panthers as they went to the second quarter trailing the Seminoles 14-8.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The Seminoles opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to force the Panthers into a timeout as they fell behind 21-8 three minutes into the second frame.
  • Out of the timeout, Harris netted four points for the Panthers but Florida State netted the final six of the half to take the 29-14 lead into the locker room.
  • Pitt shot just 14.3% from the floor in the opening half while grabbing 28 rebounds.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The Seminoles scored the first six of the third quarter before Strickland knocked down her second triple of the game to cut the Florida State lead to 35-17 early in the quarter.
  • The Pitt offense went cold in the middle of the quarter as the Seminoles went on a 7-0 run to push their lead out to 47-20 midway through the quarter.
  • Harris made a contested jumper to close out the scoring in the quarter for Pitt as they entered the fourth trailing 59-23.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Florida State opened the fourth with six straight before Taisha Exanor had a pair of free throws and Channise Lewis knocked down a jumper.
  • The Seminoles went on to secure the home win, downing Pitt 74-35.

TEAM STATS

  • Pitt shot 15.8% from the floor while the Seminoles finished the game shooting 37.9% in the win.
  • Pitt grabbed 49 rebounds including 22 offensive boards in the loss while the Seminoles had 55 rebounds.
