Harry C. Young, age 97, passed away on July 4, 2023. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 11, 1926 and later lived in Rockwood, Tennessee where he was raised by his loving grandparents. Harry attended Gulf Coast Military Academy in Gulfport, Mississippi, and then attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Shortly after, Harry volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII where he served in the Pacific.

Harry lived most of his life in Atlanta, Georgia, Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Highlands, North Carolina, belonging to country clubs where he enjoyed one of his passions, golf. Harry worked for Y-12, Oak Ridge, before a 30-year career with the U.S. General Services Administration in Atlanta, Georgia, where he retired as the Regional Controller for the southeast in 1984.

In 2020, Harry and Virginia moved to Autumn Care Farragut Assisted Living in Knoxville to be near family.

Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; parents, Fannye and Harry Young; grandparents, Thomas and Molly Molyneux; and grandson, Keith Stevenson. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Wright (Danny), Knoxville, TN and his step-children: Linda Long of Woodstock, GA and Jill Danley (Robert), Carrabelle, FL; grandchildren: Lindsey Alley (Brandon), and Derek Wright (Melissa), Knoxville, TN; Frank “Chip” Stevenson, Jacksonville, FL; Marshall Danley, Tallahassee, FL; Evan Danley, Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and seven great-grandchildren: Jacob and Mason Alley; Bennett, Logan, and Karis Wright; and Zachary and Jake Stevenson.

Harry was a loyal, loving and kind man. He will be forever known for his generosity, hospitality, and storytelling. He thrived on engaging with everyone he met. Harry was an excellent teacher of golf, and he listened intently to offer sound advice on an array of topics—sports, politics, horticulture, the stock market, to name a few. He will be missed by his family and by all the people whose lives he touched in his extraordinary 97 years.

The family greatly appreciates the care given to Harry by the staff at Autumn Care Assisted Living, particularly Pam, JeAnne, Katie and Monica who cared for Harry with patience, love, and kindness; to Amedisys Home Health; to Gentiva Hospice; and to Jodi, Harry’s caregiver. Last but not least, the family will be forever grateful to Harry’s personal physician, Dr. Mike Green, who was as much a close friend to Harry as he was his doctor. One of Harry’s final and lasting memories was traveling to Washington, D.C. last year with HonorAir Knoxville, accompanied by Dr. Green, daughter Nancy, and grandson, Derek.

Harry will be greatly missed by his many friends and loved ones. He testified of his faith in Jesus Christ so we look forward to a reunion in Heaven one day.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm on Saturday, July 22, at First Baptist Church Concord Chapel, with a celebration of life service to follow at 3:00 pm., Rev. Larry Boyles officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org/
