Storm surge is causing extreme flooding at Steinhatchee Marina at Deadman’s Bay Wednesday morning after Hurricane Idalia made landfall.
The storm made landfall at Keaton Beach at 7:45 a.m. as a Category 3 storm.
The National Hurricane Center expected the Hurricane Idalia storm surge to reach up to 16 feet (5 meters) in some areas of the Big Bend region, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday at a news conference.
WTXL Anchor Channing Frampton said the marina at Deadman’s Bay is about 6-8 feet, at normal level, below the ground level.
“This is just horrific to see,” Frampton said. “I’m very concerned about how far inland this might reach with the river going back in.”
