Jury selection begins today in the Charlie Adelson trial. He’s the 4th suspect accused in the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel.

Adelson is accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot, which resulted in his former brother-in-law being shot in the garage of his Betton Hills home in July of 2014.

At the time, Adelson’s sister Wendi was in a bitter custody battle with Markel over their two young sons. Prosecutors say that led to Adelson, a periodontist, paying three people to arrange and murder the professor.

Those three have been convicted: hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, and Katherine Magbanua, who passed money and information among the participants.

Jury selection is expected to take at least a couple of days.

When testimony gets underway, Donna and Harvey Adelson won’t be among those taking the stand at their son’s trial.

In a Friday pre-trial hearing, Adelson waived his right to call his parents as witnesses. Prosecutors then dropped subpoenas compelling them to answer questions.
