  4. I really admire the veteran who had the courage to stand up and say No to the question of "How many of you would serve again?" Two said yes and one said no Not knowing what I know now. NO." I don't blame him or if they ALL said no. When they were asked how many of them received the benefits they THOUGHT or were told they were going to receive not ONE of them did. And no disrespect to the anchorman in the middle but all 3 of them had been homeless some for years and right away he says something like well a lot of places are hiring and even looking for VETERANS as if all they need to do is get a job. Anchorman in the middle your part of the problem. What about you? How long have you worked for News channel 8? And what if you thought you were all set to retire with all these benefits and pay and pensions and etc.. and YOU got NOTHING that you were promised you would get when you started? And you spent 20 years of your life there? The BEST years of your life? Then have someone say to you well there alot of places hiring and with your experience I'm sure you'd have no problem finding a job. Really? Would a job solve all your "problems" NO I think you missed the point here. This is beyond unjust in the way veterans are treated. And it is absolute hypocrisy to have one day each year to "honor" those who've served only to let THOUSANDS of them be homeless. And then to have some fancy anchorman who could shed light on their situation to make a change for the better and help them only to basically say hey get a job and all but spit in their faces. WHATEVER. But the man who went out and met with them? God bless you. I think you should replace anchorman in the middle. I'm sure he's got a nice retirement package (I hope he gets it.) But as we've seen here you never know. But if not there are alot of places hiring former anchormen.

  5. I am a Desert Storm vet. Was in the Navy. In 03 I became homeless and when I asked for help, I was told I was the wrong color. I told the lady I was a vet and she said she didn't care about us veterans. I keep my mouth shut and stayed homeless and drunk for a year. I finally woke up and told myself that my daughter didn't need to see her daddy like this. Since then I have gotten off the booze, have always had a good job (just retired from driving truck) and now own my own house. The one thing I have remembered from when I was on board ship was be honest, be true and always better yourself.

  7. This is a horrendous truth – and embarrassment of the USA. Never, should people who serve their country be left struggling for their lives after their service. I've met so many veterans in my past job. They are always some of the most respectable people I served. They are humble and almost always take responsibility for their situations – and that is because THEY are good people – it is no thanks to those that work for veterans services OR the US government. Year after year it doesn't change and year after year I'm more angry about it for these incredible people who literally will not blame anyone because they LOVE our country so much. I don't know how to force change loudly and adamantly for our veterans – and perhaps thst is a reason why it doesn't change- private citizens don't know how to change it for them. But news stations should work together to make more "noise" about it for them. They are humble so that means you need to understand that and fight for the good things they deserve. That is my tribute to all of our service people. Know that you are loved and are appreciated. God bless you more. 💜
