TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Tallahassee Police and forensics teams have roped off a house where police believe a woman died under suspicious circumstances.

Tallahassee Police announced Wednesday afternoon that they are investigating a suspicious death on the northwest side of the capital city.

“Foul play is suspected,” TPD spokesperson Alicia Turner said.

Authorities received word Wednesday afternoon of a deceased person found on the 2300 block of Hartsfield Way, according to the Tallahassee Online Police Statistics map. When officers arrived just after 1 p.m., they found a woman’s body inside a home there, the department said.

TPD said in a post on social media that investigators have already detained one person in connection to the death, and there is no threat to the community.

“One person has been detained on scene and preliminary findings indicate this is an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community,” the post said.

It is unclear what drew officers to the scene Wednesday. WCTV has asked Turner about the manner of the woman’s death and for insight on what prompted police to head to Hartsfield Way and enter the residence there. This story will be updated with TPD’s response.

The scene is in a residential area of the capital city just blocks from Astoria Park Elementary School.

Two forensics vehicles and a handful of officers were on the street when WCTV arrived at about 3 p.m. A red-paneled home on the road was roped off with yellow police tape as law enforcement examined the scene. A white sedan is parked in front of the residence, behind the crime scene tape.

A forensic team entered the residence at about 4:15 p.m. Other investigators are circling the outside of the residence taking photos. Some collected and documented evidence, with one evidence marker placed along the walkway to the front door of the residence.

Resident Sabrina Carter said she had no idea anything happened until about a dozen police vehicles showed up on the street. It was shocking, she said.

“I knew something bad had happened when I saw the tape and saw all the cops out here, because there had never been that many out here before,” she said.

Neighbors said the community is normally quiet, and they did not hear any arguing in the area or any cause for concern. They described the incident and accompanying swarm of law enforcement as unnerving.

Investigators are asking the community to reach out if they know anything about the death.

“Detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident, but did not speak with an officer on scene, to please call 850-891-4200. They may also remain anonymous by calling Crime Solvers at 850-574-TIPS,” the post said.
