  1. Hardness minerals variously increase surface tension of cleaning solution (but not always) or form precipitates that affect foamability and effectiveness of surfactants. Below is a link to the abstract of a paper demonstrating this. A search at Google scholar for … water hardness chemicals cleaning …will turn up many more peer reviewed paper on this topic. So in principle there will be benefit to using soft water. The effect varies with the type of surfactant. It would be interesting to compare this product to using distilled water .

  2. Reverse osmosis my dad worked for the person who invented it in San Diego and yes it takes everything out of the water and make it solf and yes you don't need as much chemicals you can get for 20 cent a gallon from the water store i fill up a 5 gallon jug or one gallon jug for my pump sprayer and yes it works. Justsayin they use this one military ships to turn salt water into fresh water

  3. About 30 years ago when I was HWE I connected up a soft water system in the truck mount I was using as there were times I would fill on the job and in some cases the water source could be hard water. If hard water is present as your only source then a water softener will improve cleaning performance for sure although some cleaning products are less effected by hard water than others. Some areas will have quite hard water and in that case it is a good idea to use a water softener to improve your cleaning performance but if the water source is not so bad you wouldn't benefit any measurable amount. I actually do live in an area that unless the house was on a well system normally the water is not considered hard. I actually carry 12 gallons of water with me all the time anyway that comes from my own tap and mix a 3 gallon jug as I need throughout the day. I rarely use more than 6 gallons in a day but I almost never mix in the customers house except when I do furniture.
