  1. Here are my tips for running in the dark:

    1. Stay in well lit areas.

    2. Avoid running in the street. Stick to the sidewalks if at all possible or run at the edge of the street, not in the middle of it.

    3. Stay away from wooded areas. You never know what nocturnal animals are in the dark along with you.

    4. Avoid running by people if you are running very late. There are some strange folks out there in the wee hours of the morning.

    5. Wear light colored clothes/reflective clothing.

    6. Don't run with headphones on so you can keep more aware of your surroundings.

    7. Think about running with some protection that you can keep in your pocket, such as pepper spray, just in case.

    8. Always have your phone with you in case of emergencies.

    9. Try to keep away from busy streets with lots of traffic where there is going to be lots of exhaust.

    10. Wave hello to police officers if you see them drive by to be friendly and give them a nod of appreciation for what they do.
