Predicted rain is putting a hold on the JJ Grey & Mofro concert scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9, at the Capital City Amphitheater. On Wednesday afternoon, Leon County postponed the show “to ensure the safety of concert attendees and due to the likelihood of inclement weather.” The concert has been rescheduled to Friday, Oct. 7, 2022

Tallahassee Caribbean Carnival celebrates big weekend
The 4th Annual Tallahassee Caribbean Carnival celebrates “The Rebirth” with a three-day event Sept. 9-11 at 2028 Sharer Road. Friday kicks off the Carnival Village with live music and DJs at noon. Saturday will open the Village at noon at lineup for the Carnival Parade at 3:30 p.m. Parade starts at 5 p.m. On Sunday, events begin at noon. Tickets are $3 for children and $5 for adults. It’s getting swampy at the Bradfordville Blues Club
The David Julia Band returns for a night of all the blues you can use at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9. Julia is a young guitarist, singer, songwriter and entertainer who calls Central Florida home but who has made his musical mark across the country.
His vocals, play and songwriting belie his youth. He’s honed his skills under the tutelage of none other than Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin. who corroborated on David’s CD, “Inspired.” Although he can shred the frets, David plays the blues from his soul and sings from his heart in a more contemporary and traditional electric blues style.

Packrat’s Men of the Swamp emerges from the smoky vapors of North Florida’s black lagoon for a steamy evening in the backwoods at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
Packrat and the gang have haunted the juke for over two decades with a style all of their own. This is Florida’s original hoodoo, voodoo darkwater swamp blues band that comes in from the snake and mosquito infested wetlands. Make no mistake, there is no other band like them. Packrat’s (Anthony Thompson) gravelly voice, haunting harp, larger than life appearance and garb, provide the setting for real Florida swamp blues.
Packrat’s is backed up by Pete Beers on keys, Swampy Joe on guitar, and the venerable “Pop” Watson on drums. Pop has played with the likes of Rufus Thomas, The Drifters, The Temptations, Martha & The Vandellas and Arthur Conley among others. It does the heart good to see Pop still on the road and holding the down the pocket.
Their music is haunting, mesmerizing, low down and spooky luring folks to the dance floor like gators to the swamp water.

Ride with 100 Watt Horse at Blue Tavern
Friday gets off to a happy start from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with Tommy Hoople’s Delta Ringnecks at Blue Tavern, 1206 N. Monroe St. Joanne Archer is back from Canada and singing with the Ringnecks. Bobby Cutts & Friends gets the bluegrass jam going at 8 p.m. The voice of many a past bluegrass group, Bobby is back with some more songs, harmonica licks, and the sense of humor that made him such a great front man for Fifth Gear and Cow Lick. He’ll bring along former bandmates Kit Goodner, Carrie Hamby, and David Langston. $5 cover.
Traditional music cranks up from 4-7 p.m. at the 2nd Saturday Old Time Jam at Blue Tavern. Ben Trickey and 100 Watt Horse keep it rocking from 8-11 p.m. George Pettis – aka 100 Watt Horse is bringing his friend Ben Trickey from Atlanta for a double-header of amazing original music.
100 Watt Horse is the songwriting project of George Pettis, often featuring a rotating cast of his good buds. The band was founded in Atlanta in 2012 or so and has moved around between Olympia, WA, Nashville, TN, and Limerick, Ireland since then. 100 Watt Horse is essentially a pop group, but there’s some folky stuff and maybe a little country and heck even some good old fashioned rock and roll in there too. Paddy League returns for happy hour from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 with Brazilian guitar and songs. Tuesday is Bluesday from 8-10 p.m. with Rough Draft, a duo featuring Donny Shrum and Mike Herbert that plays nothin’ but straight up blues on guitar & bass. $3 cover.
Spend Happy Hour with touring guests The Hipocrats from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Tavern. Seattle Americana comes to Tallahassee! The Hipocrats debut EP “Road to Joy” is out now on all platforms. ‘She Loves Me’ musical plays at Faith Presbyterian
Arts@Faith presents the musical “She Loves Me” at 7 p.m. Sept. 8-10 and 15-17 in Fellowship Hall at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Meridian Road. Tickets are $20.
An intimate show, featuring music by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) and book by Joe Masteroff (Cabaret), “She Loves Me” was nominated for five Tony Awards in 1964.
Set in a 1930s European perfumery, we meet shop clerks Amalia and Georg, who, more often than not, don’t see eye to eye. After both respond to a “lonely hearts advertisement” in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown.

Get revved for Wakulla Springs Car Show
The Wakulla Springs Car Show gets up and running from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Wakulla Springs State Park. It features exciting entries such as a 1948 Jaguar Mk 4 Drop Head Coupe and a 1958 Chevy Cameo Pickup. This is a fundraiser for the Friends of Wakulla Springs, a nonprofit support organization that supports and helps protect this natural resource.
This car, truck and motorcycle show builds on a long history of car shows at the Springs, going back to the Rod Shows that were popular in the 1970s and ’80s. There will be four musical groups providing music throughout the day and exhibits by nonprofits such as the Marine Specimen Lab and the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum Association.
This event is hugely popular with families that not only enjoy the camaraderie of other enthusiasts, but also enjoy the Springs beach and the always beautiful Wakulla River tour. Food will be available throughout the day from the Wakulla Springs Lodge as well as additional food trucks.
Introduction to square dancing
Square dancing is a delightfully energetic activity set to great music, requiring lessons to learn the steps. Learn all about it with Capital City Twirlers at the free Introductory Open House from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 N. Monroe St., second floor ballroom. The Gallery at Rio Carrabelle: Art exhibition featuring the art of Roger Leonard in the historic art venue, Rio Carrabelle in Carrabelle. The Crooked River Lighthouse: Full Moon Climb and Sacred Drum Ceremony from 8-10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 in Carrabelle. Climb to the top of the tallest lighthouse on the Forgotten Coast and see breathtaking views of the bay. Paul Eagleheart from the Lipan Apache Tribe will be conducting a Native American drum ceremony during the event. Advance reservations for a climb timeslot are required. The Camp Gordon Johnston World War II Museum: Special exhibit on Operation Market Garden on display through Saturday, Oct. 1. Operation Market Garden was the attempt to establish control of the bridge over the Rhine at Arnhem on the border of Germany and the Netherlands. Camp Gordon Johnston Museum is at 1873 Hwy 98 West in Carrabelle. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. -5 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
Jefferson Arts Gallery: “Something to Crow About” at Jefferson Arts Gallery, 575 W. Washington Street, Monticello. See everything Rooster, Chicken and Biddie, paintings of the delightful featured friends by Natalia Andreeva, Ann Kozeliski and Pattie Maney, who all have very different styles to interpret their subjects. Hot Tamale: Acoustic duo Hot Tamale will be entertaining at the Annual Wakulla Springs Car Show from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. The event runs from 10 a.m. till 3 p.m. In 2020 Hot Tamale produced a music video of their song “Wakulla Green” with beautiful, artistic photos taken around Wakulla county.
