With automation on the rise, cleaning your home is becoming more and more convenient. Robotic/automatic robots have technically been around since the late 90s, but it’s only recently that they’ve reached a point where we can trust them to do a good cleaning. The famous Roomba itself has been around since 2002, only recently reaching a point where they may be chosen over traditional vacuums. It’s been almost a decade since Dyson took a shot at an autonomous robot vacuum with the Dyson 360 Eye, which was a solid entry but couldn’t quite distinguish itself among the pack. But now the company is back with The Dyson 360 Vis Nav Vacuum, promising two times more suction power than comparable vacuums and 6-times more than all other robot vacuums, spearheading a new collection of intelligent home gadgets.
To usher in this new generation, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav Vacuum is a complete rework of the previous 360 Eye model, with enhanced software and state-of-the-art sensors (26 of them) that quickly detect obstacles using a 360-degree vision system. It’s especially adept at detecting and cleaning edges, something that many autonomous vacuums have trouble with, thanks to the improved processor and Dyson’s SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) technology. It includes a triple-action brush for hard floors, a softer nylon brush and carbon fiber filaments for smaller particles, and stiffer nylon for deep carpet cleaning.
Adding to the future forward design, the robot connects to Dyson’s mobile app, which allows for remote control and customization. It even provides a cleaning report at the end of the session and even creates “dust maps” of your home.
The Dyson 360 Vis Nav Vacuum is priced at $AUD 2,399 (~ $1,600) and is expected to reach the US soon. Along with the other gadgets in the lineup, it’s available only in Australia right now.
