Sunshine Skyway piers are not only one of the most popular places in the Bay Area to fish, but also a great place to see pelicans up close.

  1. It’s bologna , it’s just an attack on fishermen. The real issue is county after county is destroying habitats for these birds. Plant some mangroves these bird people are ridiculous. If you wanna save pelicans that would be your answer push for mangroves. Sabikis have nothing to do with birds being tangled the pelicans are being fed day in an day out by everyone and their momma and they aren’t the brightest bunch. The amount you see perish every year due to red tide is triple what dies from fishing lines don’t let these people shut down fishing for god sakes we have nothing left to do outside

  2. Fishing is planned litter. Plastic components of rods, lines, lures, etc., all shed micro plastics, along with the large plastic pieces shown in the video. No human is planning to retrieve these littered items from the environment.

Fishing also provides zero ecological benefit. Catch and release is just as harmful as keeping, as almost all fish are released improperly, causing them to be at high risk of predation.

    Fishing should be illegal.

  3. Thanks Environmentalist, since you guys been screaming and pretending to understand science, all kinds of creatures die now, dolphins, whales, birds, manatee's the list is long. Just stay out of it and give them a chance.

  5. Those rules will definitely make a difference… I’ve rescued more pelicans than I can count, and all of them had a hook stuck in them at the end of the line they were wrapped up in. Fisherman… If you hook a bird, reel it in gently. Toss a shirt or rag over its face to calm the bird while you carefully remove the hook.

  6. A part of the problem is it's illegal to feed wildlife and FWC will actually fine people for it, yet there are videos on YouTube of the wildlife support groups doing it on the Skyway fishing pier and FWC turns a blind eye to it. Feeding the birds trains them to inhabit an area and kills their fear of humans ( which is what FWC loves to tell you). My family has fished there even before the collapse of the bridge, and I've watched the bird population grow throughout the years mainly due to these groups illegally feeding the wildlife. So FWC needs to find these groups even more harshly than your average fishermen. I love wildlife, but hate that these B.S. groups actually use them as pawns to get what they want which seems to be to do away with fishing basically. FWC and the government needs to look at how much money comes with our right to fish these locations and start doing what's right for both the people and wildlife and if you're going to fine one person fine all people ( groups ).
