  1. Stupidity! if the IRS is contacting you THEY HAVE ALL YOUR INFORMATION already they only will ask you for MONEY (in the worse case scenario) not your information! The only info they will ever ask you, it would be your bank account or employment to LEVY you (in the worse case scenario) & you would know about this because you would get tons of correspondence from the IRS before the LEVY.
Also, you would know if you do owe money to the IRS or not. In the case of IRS audit they will send you letters informing you about any adjustment to your tax return & you would have the opportunity to dispute it and prove it wrong (if that’s the case) & in some cases even get refund instead but in some cases you might have to pay it just to get them off your back for a few hundred dollars if they are correct because they will add interest & penalty & will cost you even more.
IRS has toll free numbers to contact them & verify everything.
Just because it’s IRS – you handle their correspondence just like any other business matter, comely & professionally . You are the one who know best if that’s legitimate IRS correspondence or fake.
Believe me you can not mistaken real IRS correspondence for a fake one. They have the same pattern of their letters for a century with forms identification. Every IRS form/letter is identifiable. Pay attention. Nothing is in color everything is black and white including logo if any ….
