TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Tallahassee Fire Department confirmed an overnight fire at an abandoned building on South Adams Street.
A WCTV reporter was at the site of the former Gramling’s building, in the 1100 block of S. Adams St.
“I never imagined that it would be in this state,” said resident Adam Baptiste.
Firefighters responded around 12:30 Saturday morning to “heavy fire” coming from the building that quickly spread to nearby buildings. The fire was under control within 30 minutes, according to TFD. No injuries were reported.
Baptiste said he saw the fire burning and was in disbelief, as he remembers being a frequent customer of Gramling’s. “It was a great staple in the community at the time.”
Gramling’s closed its doors in 2019 after more than 100 years in business, operating primarily as a gardening and hardware store.
“I wish it would have been able to be repurposed for something else,” said Baptiste. “It’s a shame to see it in the condition that it’s in now.”
Officials said the State Fire Marshal’s office was called in to further investigate the blaze, and the cause of the fire is still being determined.
